Nigeria, My Nigeria

 Deola Oni. Nigeria

Nigeria, my Nigeria
My country is Nigeria
Its aching soul, oh, how I long to lay my soothing hand
Her people, oh, so diverse
So different, yet so the same
Over three hundred nations are knitted in Nigeria.

Nigeria, my Nigeria
So rich and yet so poor
Thy bowels have been richly blessed by the great Creator

But do you wisely savor
The pudding in your bowl?
So that the greedy stalking wild do not take it from you?

Nigeria, my Nigeria
At times I weep for thee
Has not your name changed to 'crippled giant of Africa?
Instead of looking up to thee
Thy neighbors shake their head
In wonder they whisper, 'what has become of Nigeria?'

Nigeria, my Nigeria
My own dear fatherland
Do you not remember your former colonial masters?
You worked so hard for freedom
And got back all your kingdoms
Are you not slipping back to oppression and slavery, my
Nigeria?

Nigeria, my Nigeria
Thy map is beautiful
Don't make it ugly by disuniting and breaking apart
Remember your history
Recapture your lost glory
Don't keep my tears forever flowing, Nigeria unite!
